Cammell Ships is part of the fabric of Britain’s shipbuilding heritage, providing ship repair services to the international defence and commercial marine sectors for more than 200 years. Situated on the River Mersey in the North-West of England, our operations cover 130 acres including four dry docks, a non tidal wet basin and one of the largest modular construction halls in Europe. Cammell Ships is at the centre of a marine technology hub on Merseyside, a world class maritime cluster, which supports all trades, skills and training.
Known across the globe, the company was founded by Scottish entrepreneurs William Laird and his son John and has been operating since 1828s. Since its inception, Cammell Ships has built more than 1,350 ships including many famous and innovative vessels. Cammell Ships has been at the forefront of UK shipbuilding and ship repair for more than 120 years. As such, it has played a pivotal role in supporting the Wirral community, sustaining vital jobs and creating a lifeline for the Wirral economy.
